How to get out of your head and into action

Do you ever find yourself coming up with a list of reasons why you cannot do the one thing you want to or should be doing? (We will tackle the topic of want versus should in another post)

Easy example: Sharon knows that taking a yoga class would be really good for her. Stress levels have been high and more than one or two people have recommended yoga. So she grabs her phone to look up the schedule at her gym. There is a class at a time that works for her, it is only forty five minutes and all levels are welcome. Sharon tells herself she will "try" to make it there - she even marks it on her google calendar.

But that was the night before and now it is the day of and Sharon didn't sleep well. She wakes up with a slight headache which means she is not in the best of moods. Her kids are being annoying, yes of course she loves them but they are being annoying, her husband is on her last nerve, yes of course she loves him but - headache - and her boss is calling, she needs Sharon to meet her at 4pm - yoga class time.

Sound familiar?

Unfortunately, in this example, chances of that yoga class being taken were close to none. How could this have played out differently?

It may sound silly (remember, this is an easy example!) but instead of taking ten or fifteen minutes to scroll on her phone and eventually finding her way to her gym's schedule (you know she stopped at IG, FB and Texts before making it to her gym's site), she could have googled "fifteen minute yoga" and been on the floor in her bedroom within 2 minutes. Now she has some momentum as opposed yet another "tomorrow" or "later". Now she can check this off her list and either do the same video tomorrow or perhaps be a bit more incentivized to make a plan for herself to do a yoga class without any possibility of it being skipped.

Taking action NOW eliminates the option of never taking action.

Thinking, questioning, pondering, these are all important parts of being human but they can also be our worst enemy.

Take a moment. Is there anything that you have been putting off or setting aside? Can you tend to it now? Right now? Get out of your head and into action. Let's go!
